ClearLidz Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQs

Yes, the CL300 fits both the Gladiator JT and Wrangler JL the same.

In 2018, both the JK and JL Wrangler models were produced, which can cause some confusion. Our CL200 is designed for the JK, while the Clearlidz CL300 fits the JL.

The simplest way to identify a JL is by checking for a push-button start or front-facing indicator lights on the bumper. A JK uses a key start, and its indicator lights are positioned on the sides of the bumper.

A rear hard top that accommodates the OEM freedom panels is required to install a

Yes, for the JK, 6 additional rubber washers need to be added to each of the 2 Kerr bolts at the back and for the JL, a custom spacer piece is placed at the rear for a secure fitment – contact us for more details for this setup - a new part is being developed please check back our accessories tab for availability.

The modified center latch is a shorter latch that does not interfere with any mounts in the center above the visor area. This is only for JK models especially when there is a SPOD switch panel mounted where a shorter latch is needed to close and fit between the narrow space.

Installation

The thumbscrews should all be hand tight. Over tightening may lead to Clearlidz
alignment being off and can allow for poor fitment, aerodynamics and weather
seal.

Each door seal is marked on the interior with DS for driver side or PS for passenger
side to indicate correct placement. Place in door jamb above the roll bars.

Yes, they are simple to install. Here is a link to installation videos one Clearlidz
website Clearlidz Installation

Simply unscrew the thumbscrews, open the latches and lift the Clearlidz off. Remember to remove your 2 door seals and safely keep them for the next time. Here is a video on how to remove your Clearlidz https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hq-jdoCFqQ

The best way to install, is to align the lid properly over the door seals on top of the roll bar, then screw in the thumbscrews hand tight and finally close the latches over the clips in the front visor area and the back.

While no tools are needed for a quick and easy install process, for basic maintenance, you will need the following: 7/16th wrench for the latches and a crescent wrench for the hex nuts on the Kerr bolts and Philip screw driver and channel locks or 1 1/8 wrench

Clearlidz is sold as a set ready to install. If replacement pieces are needed a request
needs to be made to info@clearlidz.com, include your proof of purchase, contact details and missing part.

Troubleshooting

All CL200 are shaped this way to allow the lid to sit on the rubber properly without causing it to lift. This is normal and part of the design.

Like most automotive parts, Clearlidz do need to be serviced and maintained once in a while to provide the best user experience. Please see service videos below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THpKiN71nvs
and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQitTVM7dSc

Leaking is an indication your Clearlidz parts may be loose and it needs maintenance. Over time the road vibration also loosens the components securing the Clearlidz and they need to be readjusted and tightened. Occasional checks of these parts can help limit any weather seal issue. The small silver hex nuts on the latches might need some snugging up or the rubber washers under the screw head may need to be replaced. Also check the spacers on the insides of the latch. Be careful not to overtighten. Refer to video: Understanding Your Clearlidz Latches: Function, Maintenance, and Components - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THpKiN71nvs

On a JL/JT: There are 3 screws securing each latch that would need to be loosened. A Philips screwdriver and a 7/16th wrench would be needed to remove the screw and the silver hex nut respectively that hold each of the latches to the Clearlidz. Confirm the rubber washer on top side and spacers on the underside below. Also, Spacers are side specific to each side (left and right side) of the Clearlidz, take care not to reverse them. For the JK, Latches, the process is the same for all 3 front latches, however there is no difference in the spacers. Please see video in previous section.

Inspect the roof assembly pieces, ensure that they are seated correctly and tightened. If necessary, components such as rubber washers may need to be replaced to ensure good water seal. To confirm tightness, ensure the serrated washer is pressing firmly into the rubber washer. If the nut is loose, tighten with crescent wrench.

A channel lock or crescent wrench would be needed to remove and install the silver hex nut on the Kerr bolt. Please see video for reference:

Wind noise is a sign something is loose. It can happen when the lid is not aligned
properly on the jeep or maintenance has not been performed. Checking the lid is
properly installed and snugging up the nuts on the latches with Philips screwdriver and a 7/16th wrench. Checking also the silver hex nut on the Kerr bolts with a crescent wrench would help with proper fitment and seal to tighten things up and help prevent this.

The bolt can be loosened with a crescent wrench or channel lock on the silver hex
nut and repositioned. If there is any difficulty please contact our Customer Service for more support.

The thumbscrews can be tested around the Clearlidz to see if the Kerr bolt is cross
threaded. If the Kerr bolt needs to be replaced, please contact info@clearlidz.com

This is an indication the Clearlidz may be loose somewhere and needs to be snugged
up. Inspect components to determine where the sound is originating from and see if adjustments need to be made. Please see videos or contact us for more help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THpKiN71nvs
and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQitTVM7dSc

An inspection of the latches may be needed to make sure the latches are not bent or if it has lost any tension or pressure over time. Contact info@clearlidz.com

Some Jeep models require additional drip pieces to extend the weather seal. Please
contact info@clearlidz.com if you need these pieces for your Jeep.
